Upcoming race: Maxicare Run 2017 (BGC, July 9, 2017)

They say that life begins at 30. And I guess for Maxicare, celebrating their 30th year in the industry will somehow bring a bigger and better life for their beneficiaries.

Last Thursday, May 18, 2017, Maxicare held its Media Launch for its first-ever Maxicare Run 2017. The HMO company has been holding wellness programs for its own employees ever since, and for their 30th year, they have decided to extend this as a run open to everyone in the running community. Why running? As their Vice President for Marketing Mavel Banocnoc said,

“In running, you don’t need anything, except for a pair of good shoes, the will to start, and a road to run in!”

The Media Launch was held at Buffalo Wild Wings in Glorietta 2, Makati City.

As a way to give back to the community, Maxicare has partnered with Bahay Aruga as their beneficiary. Bahay Aruga, located just a few minutes away from Philippine General Hospital, provides free accommodation to pediatric cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy there. Most of these patients come from the province and travel all the way to PGH to get the cancer treatment they need which is not available in their hometowns. At present, PGH doesn’t have enough facilities to accommodate all these children seeking outpatient treatment, and sadly, they just use cartons and other improvised materials as their beds. Proceeds of the run will be for their benefit.

Takbo.ph founder Jinoe Gavan was up next to explain the details of the race. 2000 runners are to be targeted for this run, and runners in all events will be receiving a finishers’ medal. He also displayed the singlet for the run. Unfortunately, they were not able to bring a sample of the finishers’ shirt, exclusive for the 16k runners.

There will be a special promo of discounted rates for corporate clients of Maxicare! Furthermore, as an exclusive treat for the almost 1.2 million Maxicare cardholders, a booth will be set up during the event for their special gifts! (Now might be a good time to encourage my employer to switch HMOs! 😀 )

Finally, before the night ended, the partner race organizer LeadPack Sports Event Management headed by Lyndon Cosico distributed the race kits for those present who will also be participating in the run. My event? 16k!!

The program would not have been possible without the witty and exciting hosting of Maxicare Corporate Wellness Officer Jackie Gutierrez and Marketing Manager Kristine Zoleta. Kudos for a job well done!
